In 2002, YMF created a partnership with BMI (Broadcast Music Inc.) to showcase premieres by BMI composers.
The program became known as the BMI Composer-in-Residence, a two year-position for an established BMI film and television composer to build a relationship with the Debut Orchestra and the Los Angeles community in presenting new works and developing an appreciation of new music.
Michael served as the Debut Orchestra’s first composer-in-residence.
